The Industrial Monster in Your Backyard:
connecting Hamilton to the tarsands
The Alberta tarsands are over 3000 kilometres from here. It’s a distance that sometimes makes it easy to dissociate – not just from the mines themselves, but also from the negative effects this industry has on the land, water, and frontline communities.
Join us for an evening that aims to bridge these gaps by exploring Hamilton’s links to the toxic tarsands, interwoven with stories of individuals finding strength & courage to resist such an overwhelming project.
Using a multi-media approach facilitators will guide you through a [surprising!] number of petroleum facilities found both within and close to so-called Hamilton, explaining their function and ties to the industry . We’ll also highlight stories of how and why some individuals resist the tarsands by sharing videos, photos, communiques and personal re-tellings.
