What's New?

This is the very LAST week we are going to be pulling off Open Jam without the wonderful skills of the talented Dave Gould, who is touring through the Yukon right now! You can follow his adventures on his blog, the “Yukon Gould Rush” at http://www.yukongouldrush.blogspot.ca/
Big ups to Cliff Rutherford, Wally London and Sean Le Sage for helping with all the hosting duties in his absence.
Sean Le Sage brought the dusty blues, Meaghan Colleen Beattie brought the beautiful melodies, and A Testament To Truth brought that Tom Waits vibes AND an EP (which is still available for $5!)
Mavis and Matt presented us with an impromptu, just-written song based on the concept of being a hipster, while Jesse Elliot crooned with his guitar about finding “the one”.
Adam Carter / The Human Race busted out his usual brand of AWESOME. What a treat. Did you know he’s in the running to Open for I Mother Earth? Well he is, and you can help by voting at http://www.niagaramusicawards.ca/i-mother-earth-show/ - click on the link at the top of the page and type in THE HUMAN RACE!
Steve Dipiante (of The Ragged Bankers) gave an awesome acoustic performance, singing a song all about Hamilton. Best lyrics? “This city has got me feeling low down[…] I’ve been rusting in this steel town”. Gruntled did a great cover of Rockin’ In The Free World. Then we went into the Jam - check out all the video after the jump!

Only one more week until our host Dave Gould is back at the Open Jam! Have you been following his blog, while he tours in the Yukon? Check it out here: http://www.yukongouldrush.blogspot.ca/
In other news, our second Open Jam host Wally London has served us a great meme this week. The competition continues! Don’t forget you can submit your own meme’s on facebook to win cool stuff.
We’ll have some Starvin’ Artist rice and beans on hand so you can get fueled up. The list goes out at 7:30pm for the showcase portion, which starts at 8pm. If you just want to jam, you can time it for around 10:30pm when the stage opens up.
See you there!!

Chef Marg Ann knew this Tuesday deserved “something different” that would suit both our beef-loving and vegan/vegetarian crowd. That’s where the Burrito comes in.
“I’m always looking for inspiration, and the weather really inspired me this time,” she explained. “I wanted something hearty, but not heavy.”
The two options for this rainy spring day are the Grassfed Beef Burrito and a Vegetarian/ Vegan Burrito. Refried beans, rice, greens, onions, peppers and optional grassfed beef, all lovingly put into a wrap and then grilled until it’s just right. Dairy lovers have the option of regular cheese, while our vegan and lactose-intolerant friends can get the yummy vegan cheese we keep stocked. All of it is served with organic salsa + sour cream. Feeling extra peckish? You can add a side salad to any Burrito. For our vegetarian and vegan eaters, we recommend the Homeslaw for the extra boost of nutrients. Enjoy!

Not only did we have a stellar Art Crawl evening, but we were treated to the stellar sounds of three amazing bands. Illitry opened up the night with all the right vibes. This group, which was a duo the last time they hit the Homegrown stage, has added a drummer and bass player to make the already incredible music have an even fuller sound. They’ve been in the studio and we absolutely cannot wait to hear their recorded material. In the meantime, their flawless performance is captured on some iPad video for you.
Pick A Piper followed with some intense percussion, and an unusually amazing infusion of sax and trombone in a mathy, celebratory and pensive sound. Digits grabbed the stage after and their onstage presence was as intense and moving as their music. Catch all the video after the jump!
